You might not like to hear this but I’m gonna say it anyways. I’ve had anxiety for nearly 20 years and sadly it’s a very trial and error thing when it comes to meds, there’s not much way around it. Everyone just reacts differently to the medication.

I personally didn’t get on with Propanalol because although it worked for a while it gave me heart flutters which is a common side effect. I wouldn’t suggest Diazepam or Pregablin as they are habit inducing and to be honest when I was on Diazepam I didn’t feel like it helped that much.

I spent almost a decade switching meds but for now it seems like Venlafaxine (the slow release capsules) is doing the job well. I still get some degree of anxiety but it’s manageable.

I think the main thing is be patient and try the medication for at least a month. If you’re having bad panic attacks and such than tell your GP and he might prescribe something else in addition to try and treat those episodes separately. This may well end up being Diazepam but I would really use it sparingly.
