| Comment | You're definitely right for legal immigration but I'd be surprised by illegal (your links are very US focused).
In the UK you won't be able to pay income tax, you might be paying council tax and you'll be paying VAT on purchases but for the robust welfare system we have here you need net contributors. These guys could very well be net contributors if they aren't using any services but if they use the NHS or have kids in the school system they are almost certainly not putting in as much as they are using.
I'm proud that we have the NHS, and that in Scotland we have a more progressive income tax system than the rest of the UK meaning if you earn more you pay more. Proud that our universities aren't crazy expensive too. All this requires some sort of immigration policy to bring in the immigration we need. I don't see a problem with enforcing the rules if these guys have broken them. I agree they haven't really done anything immoral but the rules are in place to protect the country and they need to be applied as fairly as possible across the board. |
