Comment | Ah, I can see where you're coming from. I guess the argument for detention is to prevent them disappearing. Dunno if that is reasonable but probably would be the reason given. Definitely think protesting the conditions of detainment is a fair cause.
Are you sure they were asylum seekers? Can't seem to find that information. I think if they're asking for asylum and are in real danger of returning home then they definitely shouldn't be deported. From what I can tell they're Indian so it may be fine for them to return home.
I don't begrudge them flouting the rules and trying to get a better life, that's just human nature. And as I say they very well could be net contributors at this moment in time, but if it's not legitimate asylum the rules should be enforced imo at the very least for fairness to those who do attempt to go the legal route and pay all those fees for the privilege. |
