| Comment | Yeah I agree with this. My understanding was that they were acting independently of the immigration officers and were there to control the crowds. There were SO MANY police there which seemed excessive but I wondered whether there’s some sort of policy to have x number of police per x protesters? Also, the crowd were peaceful but given how some other recent peaceful protests have ended differently to how they started, I wouldn’t be surprised if that many were there in case things did turn sour. It’s a residential area, with lots of kids and schools about. While the police weren’t necessary, in this case I think it was ok and I didn’t see any nastyness from any side. |
