| Comment | Most of the left conceive of class as a material condition, i.e. people who control the means of production vs. those who don't. There is a popular conceit that 'working class' people who become wealthy are still working class, but if they control the means of production/the labour of others, they are not, they are capitalists or petite bourgeoisie. Their cultural signifiers (football etc) may be of the working class, but their actual class interests are not. |
