I agree with everything you’ve said, but the UK just isnt in a position to implement a New Zealand style system.

We’re not remote. We’re a travel and trade hub. We have our country built around diets, supplies, freight from Europe. We spent the first few months of the pandemic allowing folk through Heathrow to make sure they could get home, trans atlantic.

We’re obscenely reliant on the EU for fish, vegetables, fruit, etc. We would need a major upheaval to become self sustaining overnight.

The fact that someone travelled to a british isle via jet ski shows that we’re not water tight on our border control, never mind illegal channel crossings.

The issue is that similar to global warming measures. I dont have a wood burner, my car tax costs me because it isnt as economical as possible and I try to cycle places.
All pointless while India and China pollution continues en mass.

We can kill ourselves with this depressing and unhealthy lockdown and just hope the 1.3bn people in India gain immunity and stop creating variants. Hopefully by 2023? 2026? 2030?

I am not disagreeing with your fundamentals, just being pragmatic.

Hope you’re doing well, too.
