You’re in a shite area. You could end up in a shithole no matter the city if you don’t do your research first. Look at London, Paris etc. Plenty of *really* shitty areas that you would not want to live in.
If affordability is key, then Deniston is a good cheap area in Glasgow that is pretty sound and indeed even quite cosmopolitan now.
