| Comment | Nation-states did not exist at the time of the Old Testament. This isn’t purely a sectarian war either which anyone with a modicum of information on this situation would know. Christian and Muslim Palestinians are aligned, consider someone like George Habash (now deceased).
This conflict is related to the events that occurred in the late 19th and early 20th century, with the advent of nation-states, decline of the Ottoman Empire, the role of the British in Palestine, and newly formed identities of people who lived in that region (Palestinians) and those dispersed across Europe and the Middle East (Jews).
You can make the case for there being a Jewish state considering the persecution that they have faced as a group virtually everywhere across history. But their motivation came at the expense of people who’ve lived in that region of Palestine for centuries or thousands of years, driven out of their homes to pave way for the creation of Israel.
Dismissing it as “it has always been like this” is ahistorical and amoral. |
