I'm not from Glasgow but I've always taught in Glasgow. The ratios are just so fucked. Like in most areas you have a certain proportion of young people coming from really difficult circumstances but in Glasgow it's such a high proportion. Most of my pals who work outside the city work in schools where there are like a dozen young people who have such fucking hellish home lives that all the staff know about them and know what strategies to use with them. It's just not possible to do that when there are so many. You end up fucking it on the daily. I'd be hesitant to send my own child to a GCC school. |
