In terms of anxiety and depression I concluded yes*.

Sounds to me like sleep might be the same, as if a 'placebo' makes someone feel like they sleep better so they go to bed at 9 and fall asleep as a result then that's just as good as a tablet designed to make someone fall asleep at 9pm that works.

Obviously when you then get into things like essential oils for treating cancer symptoms instead of getting real treatment you get into some really dangerous territory but that's a different thing entirely.

*Worth noting that I'm no expert, this was a paper I wrote as an 18 year old who only done one module in psychology.
