This is the same as what happened 15yrs ago in Woodlands and surrounding areas. Steamrollered through despite the majority of residents being against it.

It does remove commuter vehicles, but maintaining permits is endless hassle, and it's much more difficult for visitors / trades.

All the council needed to do was bring in restrictions for two short periods, maybe half an hour or so morning and afternoon. Stagger it every few streets so you can get wardens round them all in good time. This prevents all-day parking but makes it quite straightforward for locals and visitors to feed the meter when required.

When the Woodlands restrictions were brought in, you had to pay up until 10pm, 7 days of the week. Meanwhile Sauchiehall St was derestricted after 6pm. It made no sense at all.
