Comment | From what I've been told by a relative who delivers the vaccine (paraphrasing here): The vaccine has to be delivered into muscular tissue. Not intravenously or into the fat layer.
The muscle chosen was the deltoid because it's accessible on the vast majority of people of all sorts of physical fitness states. There are larger needles which are used on folk with more fat tissue there but it's generally convenient and fairly easy to access on most folk. Plus it doesn't require you to drop your drawers or anything like that.
