West hasn't been good for years. It's all first year students and chainstores now. Byres Road and Hyndland even ten years ago were lovely, but it's just commercial, boring, expensive and touristy now. Hence the [mass exodus](https://www.glasgowlive.co.uk/news/glasgow-news/glasgow-property-south-side-market-20502816) of people who care about such things moving to the southside.


Basically if you're new to Glasgow, you'll see most of Glasgow in the southside. The West End is like a theme park now, and not a very entertaining one.
