I've lived in the West End on and off over the past 20+ years, if anything there's less chainstores now. Mind there was a Burger King on Byres Road 25 years ago? Hard to imagine now, although in saying that most main streets are pretty dull, and not where you go to find the interesting stuff. As a female living alone it's just nice to live somewhere where you don't get followed along the road at night - personally I find that worth the expense. There's always folk for whom West-End-bashing forms an integral part of their identity tho hey ;) |
