| Comment | That article says that those words are used against the respective sides, but does not imply that the words themselves are inherently sectarian. They may be derogatory towards a certain group of fans, but it doesn’t make the language itself sectarian. I could hate Celtic because I’m a Protestant and then call a Celtic fan a smelly sausage. That isn’t sectarian language, but it could be construed as sectarian hatred if that’s what fuelled the (very mild) insult. Hun/Tim are ‘smelly sausage’ in this scenario. |
