Social issues aside, the main problems with purchasing would be 1 - you are unlikely to get a mortgage, so you’d need to have the cash, 2 - the maintenance charges are likely to be huge, any refurbishments could end up costing you a fortune and you don’t have a choice whether they go ahead or not. And 3 - based on 1 and 2, if you ever want to sell, it could be very tricky.
