| Comment | Haha yeah I know what you mean, but the Arly has always been different. Under normal circumstances you get a lane to yourself for however long you want to swim for, which is why someone like me, a mad obsessive swimmer who loses the plot if they don't knock out 100 lengths in the morning, will happily pay out £40+ a month for the privilege.
Like I don't really mind sharing lanes at Scotstoun cos there's always about three different speed lanes, and the floaters swim elsewhere. In the Arly though I'd be thundering up and down ducking in and out inbetween several heads-uppers, probably annoying them and not being able to swim properly heads-down or get a tumble turn in half the time, not getting remotely in the zone, and spending the whole time stressing about who I need to overtake next. Not my idea of a good time! I swim there specifically because I hate overtaking, it's stressful and everybody hates you - nobody wants to be that guy. People make it difficult for you too, even when it's the 20th time you've overtaken them they'll still kick their wee legs faster when they see you approach and drag it out as long as they can! I know the pool has to follow Gov regs, but it's just a shame they couldn't have worked out something more sensible that allowed for different abilities of swimmers. Just now it's kind of like having a running track and only accommodating joggers. |
