A pivot to Scotland's already considerable green energy industry would help, but that's not done by giving tax breaks to oil companies. In fact, by levying additional taxes on dying North Sea oil the money can be reinvested into green projects.

And of course, an independent Scotland will always have it's incredible tourist industry (which has supported other small countries) - but recent events have shown the fragility of relying on it.
