Sorry to hear your GP hasn't been particularly helpful. This is actually something thats fairly common when it comes to their GP's. When the doctor says, 'what do you want me to do about it?' it's usually them trying to determine what kind of help you're after or what you feel may benefit you, although it's often implemented unskillfully and comes across as inconsiderate.

I would recommend countering this by asking them to explain what kind of treatments your local community mental health team provides. Depending on availability of services in your area this could vary from medications like SSRI's, talking therapies such as counselling or more intensive psychological treatments such as CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), EMDR (eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing) or psychotherapies with a consultant. Which ones you will be eligible for will depend on the severity of the symptoms which you can discuss with your doctor.

I'm really sorry to hear that you've been feeling so low. Hopefully you can get the help and support you need.
