It's fine: train to Balloch, cross the road to get the bus, 20 mins or so to Balmaha. I've done it before to go up Conic Hill. To be fair if you just walk north through Balloch Country Park you'll find yourself a wee beach on the loch among the trees no bother - I nip up there for a swim sometimes.
