It's not "happier doing nothing", it's that places are now trying to make up for lost revenue by cramming people in like sardines and any concept of "ambience" is now gone. Everywhere we've either been to or looked through the window at in the city centre has rearranged to double the amount of seating they have, to make up for lost revenue.

Back when restrictions were lifted but not removed we managed to go to a restaurant and have a nice time with a table to ourselves, and a bit of space between us and the next one.

I remember, for example, doing GlasGlow back in the winter and they were restricted as to how many people could get in at a time and had enforcement on social distancing.

The result was I actually had a whole two square meters to myself as we walked about and enjoyed the event and sights. Compared to street festivals from the past where everyone's crammed in together until you can't walk, it was a much more enjoyable experience.

Just feel pretty disappointed that after a year of seeing what the environment and night out scene COULD have ended up looking like, it's been tossed right out in favour of going back to the way it was before.
