Here's a few suggestions that are doable by public transport and are good for day trips: Inveraray, Arran, Troon, Pitlochry, and Balloch. Maybe Moffat.
Not outside Glasgow, but I also want to mention Linn Park as it's a place where I feel like I'm out in real nature unlike the other parks here.
