I would just want to add that I am not trying to slag NHS as a whole - I just shared my experience to show that it is not always perfect. I honestly believe that with all its shortcomings it is still a great system. It is just that it is not always brilliant and perfect and the instances when it fails are too numerous to be ignored.

I have to say also that 99% of people who work for NHS were always friendly and polite to me or my clients (I used to work as an interpreter for few years and saw it from that end as well) and even of they were unable to offer more help due to limitations of the system they were almost always trying to do their best or even go beyond that (like my GP when he tried really hard to get me MRI here and then advised me to go abroad).
