Comment | The Cobbler - if you get the bus they'll drop you at the bottom, otherwise train to Arrochar and very pleasant 40-min walk to the start. One of the best hills in Scotland, even though it gets fucking busy. I camped up there a few years ago and must have passed 50 people on the way down the next morning, including a Russian lady in fishnets and kitten heels, carrying a chihuahua. Not even joking.
Ben Lomond - the fun-est way is to get an early bus up to Tarbet and the water bus over to Rowardennan. Don't even think about going up the tourist path, a relentless slog of false summits - Google the Ptarmigan route, steeper but bonnier and quicker. You can come back down the main path.
You can get over to Arran and get up Goatfell and back in a day - the circuit down via Glen Rosa is awesome and there are lovely pools in the river there for a cool down after.
Cumbrae's a right nice day out (during the week, outside of school hols!) - you can hire a bike over there, and there are numerous excellent chippy options on your way back there and in Largs.
I could go on... Hope the weather's on your side :) |
