You need a good waterproof jacket with a hood. Some decent jumpers (you'll find reasonable-priced wool and cashmere in vintage shops over here), a wooly hat and gloves. Umbrellas are often useless in the wind!

If you want to see autumn in all its glory take the train up to Dunkeld one day - only £16-ish return. Google The Hermitage and you'll see what I'm talking about. The winter is a lovely time to hire a car and see a bit of the Highlands.

Have fun - as far as cities go, it's not so bad :)
