The railways will have Union rules that date back to the yesteryears when working actually made you money. Scotrail being an employer in the modern world will be wanting to pay people peanuts but because of the union they are met with some opposition to that idea as the people in the union will have this crazy idea that work should pay, and because of old contracts being good where people could make over time offering new staff a watered down contract would also be no use to the union. And rightfully so why should person A get more money and time off than the newer dude even though they have the same title and job. That'd be fair enough if it was a time spent thing, youv been here 20 years but that should in that case it should be an added bonus but the base rate remaining the same for all kinda thing. Tbh I don't know and good for them for doing it though as it's nice to know there are still some good old fashioned jobs out there where a bit over time could be made instead of this gig shit that seems to be the best an average person can hope for these days.
