Moved to the city 2 months ago, I'm employed with council, my girlfriend is a PhD student, both with proper Slaivc names (which I can't see as any kind of advantage in this situation).
We were quite lucky probably, but got a wonderful place which was our first choice by far. While looking for a flat we've seen quite a lot of them being online for 2+ months. So I would imagine at that point, the agency will be willing to let the place to the applicants who are not 'perfect'.
My point is that maybe you have a look at flats that are online for a couple of months or so, I'd think you would have better chances of getting it?
