This! Got a megabus from Dundee to London around 10 years ago. Ended up paying for the train back.

While it didn't seem like it was too bad at first, the constant stopping to let people on/off, grab luggage and fight with the driver if the ticket they had was expired or the wrong day, all annoyed the hell out of me.

We got to London about 10 minutes early but at 7am on a Monday morning (Sunday night was the cheapest bud if I remember) we only just realised that it was 8 hours before we could check in to the hotel. Tried asking for early (paid) check in but it didn't have that option.

That day was the worst. Trudging round London with luggage and just wanting a shower and a place to sit down, I'd honestly pay the extra to fly or get the train on the day.

Ever since that day I've always made sure I arrive at my destination for around the same time as check in.
