So, first and foremost, lgbtqi+ individuals shouldn't have to justify why they might want to join any lgbtgi+ club, society or group. That's entirely our prerogative and quite frankly none of your business.

Clubs, societies and groups of this sort are not about segregating ourselves but about fostering a sense of community with other people who share similar lived experiences and interests. I'm sure in many instances cisgendered heterosexual people are welcomed.

It's about creating spaces for us to live our lives without worrying about when we might have to address our gender or sexuality. "Coming out" isn't a one-time kinda gig, it's something you need to do on a daily or weekly basis. Sometimes it's stressful or makes us nervous, particularly in situations where lgbtqi+ people historically haven't been accepted (such as on the football pitch).

Although I can understand where you're coming from, queer people should be able to join whatever group they want regardless of their sexuality, but not every minute of our waking lives needs to be dedicated to making ourselves accepted in "normal" society.

Sometimes we just want to play football.
