I grew up in Pollok and Cardonald so saw my fair share of bams as a teenager and I was pretty scared to walk about at night a lot of the time - I’m nearly 40 now and through my adult years I’ve felt that the city has got a lot safer; ned culture seems to have all but vanished, the city centre has become more cosmopolitan and immigration has made Glasgow more of a melting pot.

Since lockdown began it feels like we’re back at square one. With most people staying at home, only the most downtrodden have been hanging about the town, and without the usual crowds to blend into they stick out. Maybe the neds never went away but were just hidden well by the rest of the city... Social problems are largely a result of deprivation and Glasgow’s definitely less deprived than it used to be, but maybe the pandemic has shone a light on those who’re still caught up in that cycle.
