| Comment | I live just beside Paisley. It’s the biggest town in Scotland and has the second most listed buildings in the UK. It was a weavers town, with I think 3 big mills, the weavers invented the famous ‘Paisley pattern’ here. The Coates family owned at least one of the mills (my history isn’t that great) and spent a lot of money on building the town. The Coates Memorial Church is a sight to behold, it’s called the baptist cathedral of Europe! There’s also Paisley Abbey, the museum, the observatory, the weavers cottage, the town halls, the university… William Wallace (Braveheart) was born 5 minutes down the road in Elderslie. Sma’ Shot day was today, but it was online this year, so you could probably still find some of it to watch. There’s a plaque on a main road here too, to commemorate where they used to burn the witches and the gallowgate where they’d hang criminals. Paisley is a cracking town with a ridiculous amount of history. It’s worth considering! |
