Budget. Edinburgh way more expensive than Glasgow, in terms of everything. Both cities have their rough bits so avoid if you can. Dublin house prices are mad and it's getting that way here, but may collapse when the bubble bursts. Who knows really?

Edinburgh much prettier and full of olden stuff and history. Glasgow more a post-industrial city. There are towns in-between which are commutable to both cities, but deathly dull. Also Edinburgh a nightmare for tourists, more than any other city I have been to practically, in non-covid times.

Might be best visiting both and getting a feel for each city.
