Comment | Ah, Glasgow Uni really does leave you with some great options transport wise. Your Subway station for work would be Hillhead and the subway map really gives you a great starting point. Partick, Hillhead, Kelvinbridge and around the St Georges Cross (near Woodlands are all good but prices are likely to be pretty high. Bridge St station has for the Laurieston area has nice new flats. West St and Shields road are more industrial areas. Kinning Park but not much going on in the area. Cessnock, Ibrox and Govan are considered to be on the rougher edge of town. Walkable areas, Hillhead, Dowanhill and North Kelvinside. Again can get pricey. North Kelvinside is popular with Glasgow Uni students and close to Botanic Gardens and the Kelvin Walkway for some nice outdoor strolls. Bus wise the number 4 goes right by the University and is frequent cross city service from the west to the south. Gives you options towards Broomhill and Jordanhill in the West. Govanhill/Queens Park on the south side is 30/40 minutes away from the Uni. Govanhill you will hear mixed things about. Its one of those areas that are currently going through a process of gentrification. Its had really bad press recently but considered to be on the path to being trendy, especially with younger people. On the number 3 bus route Shawlands is about 40 minutes plus a 5-10 min walk from the bus stop. Shawlands is often seen as an alternative to the West End for people looking for access to shops, cafes and some nice restaurants without the West End premium. With the other services I mentioned in my first post you are never really more than a 10 minute walk from the bus stop to the Uni on either corridor. Good luck on your search! |
