Yep. Take lots of photographs and stuff before you move to show it’s clean. Include places they’ll look for dirt such as microwave, fixtures and fittings, skirting, door hinges, sink plug hole etc. etc.

This way you should be at least able to negotiate the price down from a couple hundred pounds to a bit for touch ups or whatever of stuff is damaged.

The tenancy deposit scheme is great. So many of us were ripped off by landlords. Even my uni accommodation was at it (almost 2 decades ago); told me the person who dealt with the deposit had moved so they couldn’t give me it back.
