Comment | Hi. Dumbarton has some rough areas. They have been mentioned in above. Dumbarton East, And new builds at Lomondgate are nice.
The town has decent amenities. Asda, M&S, Morrisons, fast food, all right next to each other.
The High St is run down and often the hangout of the towns undesirables.
There are a couples of decents pubs on the High St but I don’t know what the state of those will be post covid.
The commute in and out of Dumbarton can be a nightmare. While generally a good train service, the lines often suffer faults, delays and cancellations for multiple reasons. Driving wise there is one road in and one road out towards Glasgow. When I commuted through the area it was almost weekly that something happened and caused major delays. If one lane closes it can cause hour long tailbacks. Very frustrating.
If you drive I’d recommend taking trip through and check out the area. If you don’t drive, take a train down and do a little exploring.
If Loch Lomond is your main motivator for Dumbarton then look anywhere in the West of Glasgow. Its easily reached by road and rail. |
