| Comment | Sadly housing lists aren’t like wait lists, it goes by priority, so if someone who is regarded as a priority comes on after you they will get a house first. Single men are usually bottom of the pile. Unless you’re threatened with homelessness, or are actually homeless (even if it is sofa surfing) it will be difficult to get a housing association flat. Priority is given to people who are homelessness/ are facing homelessness, or fleeing violence etc as well as people who are living in overcrowded places or their property isn’t safe/ habitable.
There are cheap flats on gumtree, some on right move. You can find landlords who will allow people on benefits to move in, mostly private landlords, agencies will be more difficult if they accept you at all.
If you’re looking for flats on gumtree just beware, there are people who pretend the flat they rent is theirs, take the deposit and do a runner. Then the landlord/ agency do an eviction. |
