This isn’t true at all... There are camping management zones, for which you need a permit between March and September. It’s not illegal to camp anywhere in Scotland due to the Scottish Outdoor Access code, providing you follow the code and are sensible. Rangers won’t move you on if you’re behaving and not setting fire to felled logs or leaving your rubbish lying around.
