Comment | How much it is worth (if anything) will depend on *what* HP it is, what year, specs and what is wrong. Have a look on eBay for the exact same model going as "spares or repair".
It *might be* a broken screen or it *might be* something else (bad connection, broken cable dying...). A picture would help. Tried an external monitor? If that is borked, then it's not your screen, connector or cable; more likely your GPU or MoBo. It might even just be [Windows](https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/White-screen-with-vertical-lines-after-sleep-mode-HP-Envy/td-p/5473755). Have you tried a different OS? Say Ubuntu running from a USB stick?
It's probably not worth having it fixed unless it's very high-end & new (which may mean it's under warranty), although as others have said you could always do a DIY repair once you figure out what is wrong ([sample troubleshooting](http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop-lcd-screen-turned-white/)). And [more troubleshotting](https://appuals.com/vertical-lines-on-laptop-screen/).
Or keep it and use it as a headless media server. |
