China town usually give you the ‘white menu’ if you go in without some sort of Chinese representation at the table! (Ex GF was Chinese and this happened a few times when I went in first to meet her there) So politely ask for the more authentic one - or point at other tables. As a rule, if they’ve given you prawn crackers then you’re in trouble

Ask for Tea - you should always have tea on the table and keep the person older than you’s tea topped up

Don’t let them give you plates - Most authentic Chinese places will give Westerners plates instead of bows so they can use knifes and forks. With a bowl you can add a little rice to your bowl then use chopsticks to take small pieces of whatever you want. More like Tapas.

Tapas - Order some seafood (scallops are great there), some vegetables (choi sum oyster sauce and garlic is great) and some meat dishes (as mentioned proper Char Sui is food of the gods). Put these in the middle of the table and everyone digs in using chopsticks to add the food to your own small bowl of rice

Dim Sum - There are many many dumplings you’ll never have hear of. This is more of a lunch - you’ll get a platter of dumplings and tea etc. Cantonese its called ‘Yum Cha’ which literally means ‘drink tea’

There’s some other really good Chinese places around Glasgow now also. Mainly Cantonese but also some Taiwanese influence with the Hot Pot creeping in.
Same same near St George Cross, Loon Fung and Asia Gourmet are all also very good for Cantonese stuff
