I guess the main point is to think of the humidity. People from hot countries know that humidity makes a huge difference to how uncomfortable the heat is, and I think it does also in lower Glasgow temperature range. Often the humdiity is 99% so if you stand still you'll be cold, but as soon as you start walking or moving your body has no way to cool off. For me moving to Glasgow the humidity was the biggest shock and is the part of the weather I find most uncomfortable. I saw someone else recommend an umbrella but I would say definitely not for Glasgow - its too windy and they just break. First windy day of the academic year you see all the litter bins filled with broken umbrellas! Most important is to have a properly windproof jacket. I like the goretext active jackets because they have proper windproof zips, straps to tighten the wrists, waist and hood to seal them and make them windproof. Agree with the other comments to wait until you get here (could try and get a cheap windproof for the first few days, then figure out what you would like).
