I did that; was stuck in my bedroom for 4 days as the floorboards were so manky. Gave up and didn't bother filling the cracks before varnishing. I usually enjoy diy but hated this and there was floorboard dust everywhere for a good month despite cleaning over and over- aargh! Looks really good still but would rather pay someone in the future, lol!
