The thing with Scotland and fishing is similar to the natives in Canada, we built entire towns for fishing, which in turn created sometimes comfortable lives for plenty of hard working families on what was a very sustainable business: fishermen go off and bring a catch home, crops up in town fishmongers for miles around the next day.

These towns were born and lived on fishing and when it started to dry up these towns died a pretty sad death (places like Buckie, Fraserburgh and so on are nothing like they used to be), the fact is that unlike the director (from the south east of england with a mother who makes vegan cakes) people in the massively rural areas of the moray coast couldn't (and still often can't) afford to get particularly picky about making sure their diets are nice to the animals.

And as for commercial fishing, it's now the only real viable option for fishing and people will take any gig as long as it will put these towns on the map for being anything other than drug hotspots unfortunately...
