Too early to say for electronics stuff for me yet, but I've spent a long time learning python and c++ through YouTube, online resources like blogs, Wikipedia, and text books, but mostly through practise and trial and error. People at work are a great resource for me too, as a lot of them have experience with coding and electronics. I've never used paid online resources like skillshare or anything like that, so I can't recommend those yet, but may give them a go in the future. Stack exchange can also be an excellent resource of information or snarky comments from hypernerds, depending on your luck.

I've never been to any of the hacker spaces in Glasgow, and not sure if they're still running. I like the idea though.

The most important thing for me when learning new coding stuff is to have a project on the go that's pretty ambitious, interesting, and important to you. Coming up with those is the hard part, really. Most online programming tools just suggest things like a sudoku solver and, which never really grabbed my interest too much.
