| Comment | It's not back to those levels though is it? Do the crime statistics or anything like that suggest so? It might feel a bit dodgier in town at night than it has been been the last few years, but that's likely down to the lack of late-night pub and nightclub goers lining the streets at night. Without these potential witnesses and crime deterrents on every street no wonder it feels a bit less safe, it's natural to feel more exposed and vulnerable when out alone in empty streets at night, no matter where you are or who is about.
Maybe that does mean it is more dangerous - if there were bad guys in town, you are much more likely to bump into one if you are the only person walking through town. If it's busy you likely wouldn't even notice them but if it's quiet you might get hassled by each and every one, but I don't think there has been any sort of regression in society; it's still the same number of scumbags from previous years, there just isn't the mass crowds of normal people to dilute and distract from them anymore. I reckon things will change for the better once the towns night life makes a return and the dodgy cunts seep back into the woodwork.
Obviously there is still some way to go but we've come so far over the decades. |
