Glasgow has good transport links so rather than a distance from Glasgow uni, you might want to give a time scale of how long you want your commute to be on what transport.
Walking, fair enough, go with distance
Cycling, possibly still go with distance. Be aware Glasgow is hilly so will take a bit of getting used to
Car - again go with time but where are you parking as it is often easier with public transport as few parking spots
Public transport - Glasgow has pretty good and extensive bus and train services within the city. Also the subway is frequent (nicknamed the clockwork orange). These methods would probably extend the distance you could live.

Also, why near Glasgow uni. Are you students or working there? What are your ages? Jobs?

Let us know and could probably improve the advice
