Don't be so sure about CCTV, even in the middle of the town. I knew someone who was assaulted in the area and although there's many shops and pubs about, not to mention other CCTV, the police couldn't find any footage of the perpetrators. Maybe they were just incompetent lazy bastards, but either way it's not the certainty it should be. OP - worth asking about when you report it though.
