Anyone can play d&d, it's super easy and you'll easy get into the flow quick enough.
Glasgowdnd sub is a good shout to try and find games as are west end games if they reopen.
As for length, most people usually run sessions of between 3 to 6 hours depending on factors but 3 or 4 hours is a good shout. This could be a one off adventure or part of a longer story with the sessions all connected.
I totally recommend playing it, it fuels the imagination and is just a nice way to spend time with friends.
