I know a lot of people who grew up in Greenock, the consensus always seems to be that you get outta there as soon as possible. I would avoid it. Have you considered somewhere maybe like knightswood, Scotstoun, Clydebank, Duntocher? all have very affordable homes and with in sight of the city.
