Comment | I can't say that I've done so in Glasgow but I've been out on my own when travelling. My experience of the gay scene here is more than few years old so anything I say here may be out of date. My feeling is that it's only worth clubbing on your own if you're OK dancing by yourself, in a room full of strangers (who are not paying you much mind so I think it's fine). I find sitting or standing around on my own feels a bit awkward. I'd recommend going to bars first and getting an idea of where fits your vibe and it's way less uncomfortable being on your own when there is entertainment or karaoke on. Katie's Bar, Underground and The Gallery are worth checking out as well as Delmonica's and The Riding Rooms. I know there's new bar opened at Saltmarket called Bonjour, that seems to be young gender queer and trans friendly, and another (maybe) called Slay on Glassford Street within the glass fronted building that's mostly a carpark and used to house Tiger Tiger. I think the people behind that have been putting on drag shows in other venues for a while. If you're not familiar with Polo, The Riding Rooms is part of the club but separate enough to have shows, live music and drag usually, before the club opens fully. Delmonica's is not part of the club, opens earlier and shuts usually at midnight but is owned by the same group and is the same feeder bar for Polo most nights. Club X is a room within the Polo that can be open on its own some weeknights, say on a Tuesday, not open at all on another weeknights, and open as part of the Polo at the weekend for full capacity. In my day you could into the Polo free before 11pm or get an entry pass from the bar at Delmonica's between 11pm & 12am. There is also the possibility of passes from 'promo' teams for Polo and AXM on the street near either venue. There are a few of lgbt nights at the Poetry Club / SWG3 in the west-end, Hot Mess (disco house music, mostly male crowd but mixed) Shoot Your Shoot (similar vibe but more of mixed crowd) and DILF (I've never been been but I imagine a cruisey vibe for men, cruising). There has been and might be again LGBT+ nights at the Berkeley Suite, Nice and Sleazy's, the Art School, The Flying Duck, and Stereo. There are definitely clubs and bars I haven't heard of so although I've listed a fair few there are and will be more. |
