If you haven't lived in Glasgow before I'd really recommend renting for at least a short period so you can get a feel for the different areas. There is no minimum term for renting now so you can really take your time to find the right property for you. The last thing you want to do is buy a house in a rougher area, find you're unhappy/unsafe there and struggle to shift it later on. With kids, you don't want to take any risks and, honestly, you shouldn't be settling for just feeling safe inside your home. You need to consider your neighbours and also that your kids will want to play outside and visit friends etc. when they're older, if this is a longer term move.
